ISS was founded in 2000 in order to support the Zimmer product range as well as providing technical backup and education on various implant products.

We currently represent Zimmer Dental implants and paraphernalia, Zest Anchors Over-denture attachments, Intra-Lock Mini dental implants, IsOtis Orthobiologics, MetaCura bone substitutes, Dentapreg Reinforced Composite fibres and Salvin Dental Specialities. ISS has branches and representation in all the major city centers of South Africa. Zimmer Dental

Our main principle, Zimmer Dental, provides you with a conventional two stage implant - the Tapered Screw-Vent, a single stage implant - the SwissPlus and the recently launched Zimmer one piece implant. Three different solutions from one system – versatility.

Often, international high quality implants are marketed at a premium cost on the South African market.  Unlike many of our competitors, this implant range comes with a multifunctional fixture mount that can be utilized for the impression pick up and as a cost effective solution for temporary and/or final restorations. The fixture mount provides the restorative clinician with a prepable titanium abutment with a machined abutment interface fit, equal in quality to many of our other competitor’s abutment connections. In conjunction with this, implants are either packaged with a cover screw or a healing abutment at no additional cost to the patient.

Although we may provide a cost effective solution, this does not limit the restorative dentist in any way. We provide various prosthetic solutions for all our implant systems. The Zimmer implant range has some additional benefits that need to be mentioned.

Tapered Screw-Vent

The Tapered Screw-Vent implant has a unique internal hexagon with a self-locking taper on the abutments male interface, which when seated into the female hexagon of the implant achieves a friction-fit. This friction-fit eliminates the effect of occlusal vibrations and by having an Internal-hexagon which is double the volume of the standard external hexed implants, distributes forces deeper within the implant. Thus shielding the abutment screw from excessive loading and eliminating all rotational and tipping micro-movements (the leading causes of abutments screw loosening and breaking). The lead-in bevel provided by the internal hex connection is designed to reduce horizontal stresses and creates a more favorable condition for bone level maintenance than traditional flat, “butt-joint” connections. This friction-fit furthermore seals the internal chamber of the implant from facterial colonization, which has been reported with competitor implant systems utilizing poorly designed internal connections. It must be remembered that The Screw-Vent implant has had over 15 years of clinical research and success.

 

Proven long-term success rates make Tapered Screw-Vent a system clinicians and patients can trust

• Documented success:  98% success rate in prospective clinical evaluations.
• No bone loss observed in 98% of implants in a long-term prospective clinical evaluation, despite the fact that each patient had one or more risk factor for clinical complication.
• No statistical difference in success rates observed between maxillary and mandibular implants was reported (references Available on request).

SwissPlus

The SwissPlus single stage implant provides an ideal solution for posterior crowns or bridges, Over-denture cases, bar structures and hybrids. The implant collar is normally seated supra-crestal, eliminating the need for trans-mucosal elements to raise the platform to gingival level but maintaining the 2mm biological width, which has a positive influence on bone heights around the implant.  In addition to this, the SwissPlus has a machined titanium neck, still allowing for the possibility of integration onto the neck of the implant if it is seated sub-crestal, but allowing for flexibility and confidence at the time of implant placement. Studies completed by Joel L. Rosenlicht demonstrated the interchangeability of restorative components between SwissPlus and the ITI SynOcta implant systems. Interfacial contact tests with abutment stains indicated that an intimate interfacial seal was achieved by SwissPlus abutments assembled on both SwissPlus and ITI SynOcta implants, where as ITI abutments assembled on ITI SynOcta implants demonstrated the presence of interfacial gaps between the components. Initial results have also shown that both the straight and tapered SwissPlus demonstrated higher insertion torque levels than the ITI SynOcta implant in both high and low density simulated bone. Zimmer One-Piece

The concept of a one-piece implant has been around for a number of years and from a number of implant systems. To date one-piece implants have had a few draw-backs, namely the limitation of a straight angled integrated abutment; Intra-Oral preparation of the abutment portion of the implant and limited guidance as to the level of placement of the implant. The Zimmer One-Piece range of dental implants design is based on the successful Tapered Screw-vent implant range. Straight and angled integral abutments offer contoured, chamfered margins minimizing or eliminate preparation time and versatility in implant placement. It is the only one-piece implant with an angled abutment and surgical Try-in pin, providing the surgeon with more versatile choices in the anterior esthetic zone.

Surface Enhancement

The MTX surface available on all of the Zimmer Implants, has shown favourable results for BIC (bone to implant contact and superior OC (Osteoconductive capacity) when compared to six other well known implant surfaces after early loading in augmented sinuses. Yet another reason to consider the Zimmer implant range for your patients.

You may agree with all of the above, but are still unconvinced as you may believe that the system that you are utilizing currently has a number of these benefits and is one of the top selling implants internationally and locally. However, one last point that needs to be conveyed to you and emphasized to your patient:  The Zimmer dental implant range is a fully imported implant system, showing equal and superior advantages to allother systems available on the market. The system is represented all over theworld and has 9% of the global dental market (4th biggest supplier of dental implants worldwide). Considering all of the above  advantages and benefits,  it might be surprising to know  that this implant can be more affordable than all of our international competitors and even competitive against the local clone systems in South Africa. Your patients will want to have top quality products at affordable prices – ask them I am sure they will agree!

Intra-Lock MDL and Milo

In addition to the Zimmer dental implant range, we also offer the mini implant range manufactured in the USA by Intra Lock. The MDL (2.0mm and 2.5mm) and Milo (3mm) implants are one piece ball Over- denture implants and provide a solution for your elderly over-denture patients who want to resolve a loose denture, quickly, painlessly and cost effectively. The 2mm diameter implant has shown a 30% increase in strength in comparison to our nearest mini competitor. In addition to this, the Intra-lock system has various prosthetic abutments available for you, allowing you to utilize the implant in narrow spaces and provide you with a prosthetic solution. The abutments themselves are cemented onto the heads of the implants; studies have shown that this junction is superior to that of an externally hexed abutment held into place with a screw. MDL implants have been approved by the FDA for long term maxillary and mandibular tissue-supported denture stabilization and can be restored after a period of time or placed in immediate function.
